Day Charter

You will arrive at the Nene Valley Railway's Wansford Station at 9am on Friday 28th February 2025 and participate in a short safety briefing by one of our members of staff.

We would like you to get the most out of capturing Eastern Steam on freight and so London and North Eastern Railway A3 Class Locomotive No 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’ will be running at the head of our demonstration Goods Train throughout this event. This opportunity takes place between Yarwell and Peterborough Nene Valley Railway (PNVR) Stations with run pasts through Wansford Tunnel, Wansford Station, River Nene Bridge, Castor Straight, Longueville Junction, and PNVR. There will also be cameos at Wansford involving loading/unloading and the opportunity for shots on shed in Wansford Yard.

This charter begins at 9am with a briefing and then photography from 10am. Our cafe will also be open for you to purchase food and refreshments while you are with us if you wish.

This experience concludes at approximately 4:30pm.

This package is priced at £200 per person.

Evening Charter

You will arrive at the Nene Valley Railway's Wansford Station at 5pm on Friday 28th February 2025 and participate in a short welcome and briefing regarding the event.

Once the briefing is done and dusted, the practical fun begins and you will be escorted to the platform in time to see London and North Eastern Railway A3 Class Locomotive No 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’ preparing for our event. There will then be a brief shunt to prepare for a 6pm start of the event. The locomotive will be resplendent in British Railways Brunswick Green and so we have organised a 1950s themed photographic opportunity.

There will then be a series of static scenes and run-pasts over the course of the next few hours as we provide actors, props, and appropriate stock to create an evening of goods themed action.

Having completed the movements at about 8:45pm, Flying Scotsman will go on shed while the diesel shunter puts the wagons back into their siding and brings the coaching stock back into the platform for the next day’s service trains. You are welcome to stay and experience these shunts and also join the locomotive on shed for any final shots before the event is concluded at approximately 9pm.

This course is limited to a maximum of 60 people, so early booking is advised.

This package is priced at £100.00 per person

A Golden Opportunity

On the day of the Photographic Charter, we are giving two people the unique opportunity to ride on the footplate of No 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’". Sit in the fireman’s seat and watch the action from the perspective of the locomotive crew..

The opportunity is priced at an additional £200.00 per person and is limited to one person in the morning and one person in the afternoon of the Scotch Goods charter.

Considerations

The environment of a Steam Railway can be physically demanding and so a reasonable level of fitness is required to participate in this course. On the grounds of health and safety we unfortunately cannot accept any participants under the age of 18 years. Sturdy footwear such as shoes or boots is essential due to the terrain.

The locomotive for the event will be London and North Eastern Railway A3 Class Locomotive No 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’. Please be aware that Steam Locomotives are mechanical vehicles and subject to wear and tear which may result in delay or the short notice cancellation of this event.

And finally…

Our mission is to ensure that you enjoy the experience and get the most out of it. If you have any questions or queries either prior to booking, after booking or on the day, then please do not hesitate to ask.
