Since 1977 well over 150 films, commercials, episodes for television and music videos have been made with the help of scenes shot on the Nene Valley Railway.
Some have been major productions like the James Bond films 'Octopussy' and 'GoldenEye' while television companies have based episodes of series such as EastEnders, Silent Witness and Agatha Christie's Poirot as an integral part of the plot.
The Nene Valley Railway lends itself naturally to filming by having a number of features fit for screen. The railway has seven and a half miles of track running over and alongside a river, traverses meadowland, cuttings, urban areas, passes an industrial complex and runs through a country park.

To date the railway has been used in the making of the following productions:
Secrets of Flying Scotsman - C4 TV documentary - Two part series telling the story of the world famous locomotive and featuring Flying Scotsman's visit to the NVR for passenger services in February 2025.
Silent Witness - BBC1 drama - S26 ep 7 Heart of Darkness part 1 - NVR's Wansford platform and Yarwell tunnel feature in a storyline about a sabotaged train
Big Steam Adventure - Chanel 5 TV series - S1 ep2 - Peter Davison, John Sergeant & Paul 'Piglet' Middleton travel from London to Scotland by steam, visiting NVR to travel on 92 Squadron.
EastEnders - BBC TV drama - NVR's Orton Mere transformed to 'Walford Common' railway station with actor Clay Milner Russell (Bobby Beale) as part of the ‘Who Killed Lucy Beale?’ storyline.
The Yorkshire Steam Railway: All Aboard - Channel 5 documentary - S2 ep 5 - NYMR's Engine shed boss Piglet heads to the NVR to scope out the 92 Squadron engine.
Great British Railway Journeys - BBC2 series - S8 ep2 - Michael Portillo journeys from Peterborough to NVR Wansford station to learn how to operate the railways pump trolley.
The One Show - BBC1 series - Gyles Brandreth investigates a daredevil James Bond stunt sequence from 'Octopussy'.
Impossible Railways - UKTV Yesterday channel - S1 ep 6: Need for speed - It features NVR and some of the volunteers in a piece about the A4 Pacific class.
