Membership and Volunteering
Join the Nene Valley Railway and help support our wonderful heritage railway
The Nene Valley Railway is a popular heritage railway running for 7.5 miles through the picturesque North Cambridgeshire countryside. It is a charity that is run almost entirely by volunteers.
By becoming a member or, better still, volunteering with us and becoming a working member, you will be helping to support our heritage railway and bring enjoyment to members and visitors alike.
Advantages include:
- A monthly E-Newsletter on NVR-related topics
- 50% Travel concessions on standard running days (excluding Special Events, dining services and Santa services)
- Member social / special events
PLUS: if you volunteer with us and become a working member, you can:
- Use skills you already have
- Learn new skills (full training given)
- Attend various NVR meetings, suggest ideas and help influence future policy
- Help organise special events
- Make new friends
- Take satisfaction in giving enjoyment to others
- Enjoy free leisure travel on standard running days throughout the year, subject to the following terms and conditions:
- Working members are defined as those undertaking at least 6 volunteer turns per year.
- To obtain a free ticket on the day of travel, working members must present a valid NVR HOPS card and a valid NVR Membership card at the Booking Office or to the Travelling Ticket Inspector.
- This offer is only available on standard running days: for the avoidance of doubt, special events, including Thomas shuttles, HST and visiting engines, are excluded.
- Tickets for free travel are available for the working member only: this offer does not include spouses, other family or friends, who must be in possession of a valid NVR ticket.
- Fair usage: working members are expected not to travel free on every or most standard running days. Any member who is deemed to be abusing the offer will have their free travel benefit withdrawn by the General Manager, whose decision is final.
- On busy trains, working members may be asked by the Travelling Ticket Inspector to avoid travel or give up their seats in favour of fare-paying customers (subject to the working member's health condition).
- This offer may be withdrawn with 48 hours' notice by the General Manager or the NVR Board of Directors.
