Join us on Wednesday 20th August when young engineers can learn about engineering at a railway with Chris Vine of Peter's Railway.

 
For ages 5 to 15 – Perfect for young railway fans eager to explore the fascinating world of steam!


🔧 Get hands-on with history!

Join us for a unique morning or afternoon session designed especially for children with a keen interest in steam locomotives and how they work. Our morning session will run from 09:45 until 11:45, which will give you the opportunity to ride on our 12:15 or 14:30 trains, or both if you wish. The afternoon session will run from 12:15 until 14:15, which will give you the opportunity to ride on our 10:00 or 14:30 trains, or both if you wish.

  • Interactive Steam Engine Session – Learn how a steam locomotive works and get up close to see its parts 
  • Shed Tour - See the inner workings of the NVR engineering shed
  • Signal Box Tour - Learn how our heritage signal box works and some of its history
  • Turntable - Learn about our turntable, how it works and its history
  • Miniature Railway Ride – Enjoy a steam-hauled miniature railway ride 
  • Peter's Railway Book - You will receive a book from the Peter's Railway collection
  • Peter’s Railway Book Signing – Meet the author and get your book signed!
