Celebrate Railway 200 in style with the 137-year-old Coal Tank Locomotive and Traditional Fish and Chips
The Stockton & Darlington Railway opened on 27th September 1825, connecting places, people, communities and ideas, and ultimately transforming the world.
The LNWR was born with the amalgamation in 1846 of several companies, the largest being the Liverpool & Manchester, the Grand Junction Railway, and the London & Birmingham railway. Within 20 years the LNWR network was virtually completed, including what became the West Coast Main Line from Euston to Carlisle. Other towns served included Huddersfield, Warrington, Preston, Oxford, Wansford, Peterborough, and many others. The LNWR had numerous joint working arrangements, enjoying friendly relations with both the Caledonian Railway and the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, and later with the Midland Railway.
Engine No.1054 was built at the Crewe works of the London & North Western Railway in September 1888. It was the 250th example of a total of 300 ‘6-wheels coupled side tank coal engines’ or, as they were more popularly known, Coal Tanks. Built in 1888, the loco is still running at an outstanding 135 years old.
On arrival from 6.00 pm, 1054 will be in the platform for you to view and take photographs. At 7.00 pm the whistle will sound and the train will depart for Peterborough. Relax in your seat and enjoy drinks from the bar as our onboard team serve a traditional fish and chip supper at your seat. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the scenery as we run along the Nene Valley during a trip of the line. We return to Wansford at around 9.00 pm.
For any other dietary requirements, please call the office to discuss.
