Thomas & The Travelling Post Office at Nene Valley Railway!
For one special day, Thomas is thrilled that the Wansford Controller has chosen him to pull the Travelling Post Office (TPO) Train!
Join us on 2nd August 2025 for a unique experience where you can ride on Thomas’s Mail Train, meet Postie Pete and his cat Ginger, and witness a live mailbag exchange – just like in the golden age of postal railways!
What’s Included in Your TPO Experience?
• Ride on Thomas’s Mail Train – Travel from Wansford to Sutton Cross, where you’ll step off the train to watch the mailbag exchange before re-boarding to continue along Thomas’s branch line to Yarwell.
• Watch a Live Mailbag Exchange – Alight at Sutton Cross and see how mailbags were exchanged on moving trains – a rare sight in the UK today!
• Help Sort the Letters Onboard – Just like real postal workers used to do, help ensure the letters reach the right destination.
• Meet Postie Pete & Ginger the Cat – Ginger has been working hard to keep the train free of pesky mice – can you help him?
• See Thomas in Action – Watch Thomas run around his train at Yarwell while Pete and Ginger unload the sorted mailbags. After watching Thomas run around his train at Yarwell, enjoy the journey back to Wansford.
• Enjoy Wansford Station’s Facilities – Visit the playground, shop, café, and riverside picnic area before or after your journey.

Important: Customers can only board the TPO train at Wansford.
The experience lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Your ticket includes a ride on Thomas’s Mail Train, access to the mailbag exchange viewing area, and all listed activities.
Choose either a Morning TPO Train or an Afternoon TPO Train when booking.
Pre-booking is strongly recommended due to limited space.
If you wish to travel on the Main Service Train to Peterborough, a separate Standard Travel Ticket is required. The TPO ticket does not include travel on this train.

Accessibility & Additional Information
• Due to the historic nature of the coaches and the mailbag exchange site, this event is not wheelchair accessible. We apologise for any inconvenience.
• Buggies can be left with the Station Master, but unfortunately these cannot be brought on board.
• There is no seating on the TPO carriages and so this event is not suitable for individuals who are unable to stand.
